Chimney fires can often result from poorly maintained chimneys - and it's not just the soot that can restrict safe air flow. Wasps and birds nests can be less obvious to the casual observer but even more dangerous in creating the environment for a fire or blockage. The risks of Carbon Monoxide poisoning from poorly maintained flues  is less well known but equally a serious  concern.

 

It is recommended that  you have each of your chimney's swept at least once per year. More often for a woodburning stove or  if it is in heavy use  (or you have been burning damp wood).
